Stand-Up Comedian, MC, host & compere
Award winning comedian, Jason Byrne, is without doubt, one of the most exciting comedy performers currently working. Hailed by both the national press and public alike, as the 'name' to watch out for, he has been highlighted by both the Irish Times and Hot Press Magazines as the 'must see' comedian for 1998.
Jason's inspired, original brand of high-energy lunacy, ensures that there is no other comedian presently like him. His fast-wheeling style, fused with an array of offbeat props, make his act a helter-skelter of a show - where the audience are promised the rise of their lives! Affable, yet manic, Jason truly makes the stage his own when he performs - and undoubtedly never leaves without the audience shouting for an encore.
The universal appeal of Jason's material guaranteed that he burst on to the UK scene with a mass of media interest. Features in top magazines and newspapers have gone hand in hand with countless television offers - including a potential solo series, already in development.
After winning one of the much acclaimed 'So You Think You're Funny' Channel 4 awards at the Edinburgh Festival, Jason returned to co-headline a show with Tommy Tiernan, which won them 5 star reviews and sell-out audiences. He has featured on Channel 4's Edinburgh or Bust series. He has gone on to sell out every year since.
Jason has gone on to perform three barnstorming appearances on Channel 4's 'Gas' series (the only performer to be asked to do 3 full length slots); filmed a role for John Boorman's latest feature film 'The General'; written for, and co-starred in the Paramount Channel's sketch series (for which he performed weekly character monologues); co-starred in the final series of Channel 4's 'Father Ted' ; RTE's 'The Late, Late Show'; hosting a 30 minute special for Granada TV for The Manchester Festival series (where he 'ran away' to join French theatre-circus group 'Cirque Baroque' - and subsequently had to learn the trapeze and various high wire antics!) Jason has also appeared in the acclaimed Irish film 'Separation Anxiety' , starred in the short feature ' Kung Foo Finance' , and has just been cast in the major USA feature version of 'Alice in Wonderland' , alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Martin Short. He now has his own show on Ireland's RTE.
On the live side, Jason has had a highly successful run of fortnightly solo shows which sold out to wide acclaim. He was the special guest performer for Ardal O'Hanlon's shows at the 1200 capacity Olympia Theatre in Dublin, which won him an encore. A rare feat for a guest act!
Jason has just filmed two solo, lead commissioned television projects for Channel 4 television and is in discussions with various TV Companies for future ideas.
"With this young Dubliner's wild and extravagant talents, he has the potential to become a major circuit/television star" - THE IRISH TIMES
"I saw Jason Byrne for the first time the other week. I had never seen him before then, but he is a star, at the moment a small star, but eventually he will be a star of absurd proportions. I couldn't begin to describe his material other than to say that when he stands in front of people for more than 20 seconds they begin to laugh out loud - and they don't stop until he goes away. Jason Byrne is such a mad hybrid, so instinctual that above everything else, you are just blown away by the sheer force of his talent and charisma. - THE INDEPENDENT
"Part Spike Milligan, part Duracel Bunny, Byrne's rollercoaster of improvisation and sketches run on a subtle combination of comic genius and raw energy. Jason Byrne is a truly unique experience, and quite simply one of Ireland's finest and most daring comedians. Unmissable." - THE EVENING HERALD
