Legendary bass guitarist, musician
Legendary bass guitarist, Jerry Scheff, grew up around the San Francisco Bay area, USA. His extensive recording and touring career has seen him perform with such all time musical greats as Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, The Doors, Elvis Costello, John Denver, Roy Orbison, The Everly Brothers, Bette Midler, Sam Philips, Johnny Cash, Nancy Sinatra, Dwight Twilley, and Jerry has also contributed to many classic original film soundtrack recordings including 'Great Balls of Fire' and 'Grease' amongst others.
For many years Jerry toured and recorded with 'The King' himself, Elvis Presley, and wrote the song 'Fire Down Below' for him, which has gone down in legend as the last song Elvis ever stood to record...sadly the vocal session was never to be completed. In an unprecedented move The Presley Estate has since released 'Fire Down Below' without it's vocal as the final instrumental track on 'The Jungle room Sessions' CD.
Jerry's extraordinary stories of the Memphis, Nashville and Los Angeles music scene are a fascinating insight into the birth of the brave new world of Rock & Roll. His memories also offer a deeply personal, candid understanding of the great artists he has performed alongside whilst touring the world. Some special moments for him include recording the 'LA women album' with The Doors, playing to 250,000 people at Blackbush UK with the great Bob Dylan, and the classic Las Vegas performances with Elvis Presley. More intimate moments include recording amongst friends in the jungle room at Presley's much loved home, Gracelands. As bass guitarist with the TCB band Jerry was already on the artist's plane flying to begin the next tour, when he was told that Elvis had died during the night.
Jerry's incredible life as a musician contains moments of tragedy, amazing performances and back stage high jinx, and his unique playing style has influenced a generation of musicians and vocal artists. Today he continues to be invited to perform and record as a session musician world wide. Let him share these amazing personal recollections with you in his own entertaining and gentle style.
