About

Jimmy Carr

One of the most original and distinctive stars on television, radio and the stage, Jimmy has enjoyed several hugely successful years.

Jimmy’s first six live DVDs (Live, Stand Up, Comedian, In Concert, Telling Jokes and Making People Laugh) have now sold over 1.2 million copies in total to date. His latest stand-up DVD, Being Funny, was released in November 2011.

In August 2010 Jimmy’s all-new solo show Laughter Therapy debuted at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh. Starting just a few days after the close of the marathon Rapier Wit tour, during which Jimmy played to over 300,000 people. By the time it finished in November 2011 with three huge arena shows in South Africa, the Laughter Therapy tour, had been seen by even more people. Often referred to as ‘the hardest working man in comedy’, Jimmy has so far performed his stand-up tour shows to well over 1.2 million people in the UK. His new tour, Gagging Order, began in April and will run throughout 2012 and 2013.

As well continually touring Jimmy can often be seen on popular television programmes; most notably as host of Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats. A comedy panel show based on polls, surveys and statistics, the show is now into its thirteenth series. In January 2011 Jimmy joined forces with David Mitchell, Charlie Brooker and Lauren Laverne to host 10 O’Clock Live, a brand new weekly series taking a fresh and funny look at the news and current events and the show returned for its second series in February 2012. Jimmy’s own game show Distraction; where four contestants have to answer general knowledge questions while being distracted by devilish challenges was first transmitted in 2003 and a second series was commissioned by C4 in 2004. Jimmy’s other recent television appearances include The Graham Norton Show, Have I Got News for You, Would I Lie to You? QI and two Royal Variety Show Performances.

A household name in the UK, Jimmy is also a rising star in the US, where his profile continues to grow. Jimmy has performed two Comedy Central Specials and in May 2011 appeared on NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien – his fifth appearance to date. Jimmy’s game show Distraction aired on Comedy Central and was subsequently repeated. He has also appeared four times on NBC’s flagship programme The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In March 2012, Jimmy performed in the Secret Policeman’s Ball at Radio City Hall in New York, transmitted live in the US on EPIX and again in the UK on Channel 4. In July 2011, Jimmy performed at the Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival for the seventh time.

"Bloody funny…a comic on top form…this show is unlikely to be improved upon at this year’s festival."

Independent

"The brightest British comic hope for a long, long while…The most deliciously transgressive comic…He is not so much pushing out the boundaries as sailing in uncharted waters…Superb."

Irish Times

"Witty, surprising, different, and clearly a new onscreen presenter for the future."

Kirsty Young, Presenter, RTS Awards 2003

"A wonder to behold…he plays with your boundaries, but you love it. If Jimmy Carr can do to a body what he does to a mind, then his girlfriend must be the happiest woman on the planet."

Scotsman

"Some of his one-liners are right up there with Steven Wright or Woody Allen."
