BBC
'Crimewatch' Presenter
Rav
Wilding is currently a regular presenter on BBC
Crimewatch and has been since May 2004. The programme
is fast pace and one of Ravs main roles is to
give the live updates as and when they come in
via telephone, often with only seconds notice
before speaking to camera.
In
addition Rav has also appeared in various Magazines,
and publications including a full page piece
in the July edition of Attitude Magazine
Rav was born 16th October 1977 in Canterbury
Kent and is the second of five children. His
father is from Mauritius and Mother English,
who were both Nurses when they met. After secondary
school he took an apprenticeship in construction
before joining the Army at 17. Due to his stature
and physical fitness he was selected to undertake
Parachute training but a broken leg sustained
on a training run cut a career in the Airborne
unit short and after 4 years he left after medical
staff advised him that it would be highly unlikely
that his leg would ever be back to full fitness.
On leaving the Army in 1999 Rav started working
at Harrods store in Knightsbridge on The security
team. Rav says "The work there was so varied
one moment you could be taking a cash float
to the vault and the next we were escorting
Posh Spice when she came in!" After around
9 months at the prestigious London Store Rav's
application in to the Metropolitan Police service
was accepted and he commenced training school.
Rav Joined the "Met" at the start
of 2000 and was posted to Peckham in South London.
After two years in Uniform he responded to an
advert for people to partake in a Jungle adventure,
to live for three moths in an Australian rain
forrest for a new TV Programme on Channel 4
called EDEN. After numerous auditions and around
50000 applicants Rav was picked for the programme
and flew out to New South Wales. "Eden
was great because I lived in a place I may never
have been lucky enough to have seen had I not
been picked for the show, but it wasn't all
roses though.… one time a small spider
crawled out of some clothing one of the guys
left on the floor. He was scared of spiders
so asked me to squash it which I did with a
flip flop, I then discovered from one of the
Aussie Cameramen that it was a funnel web spider
one of the most deadly spiders in the world!"
After three months of the Jungle Rav returned
to the UK and went back to work in the police
but this time in to the CID.
Working within the CID Rav was posted to units
focussing on Robbery ,Burglary and Major investigations
as well as currently working on a Sapphire unit
dealing with Rape and sexual assault allegations.
He was quickly selected for Detective training
and soon became a "DC". Rav said "Work
within the police is great and I would always
recommend it to anyone thinking of joining, but
it can get very serious just through the nature
of the work,so when I saw an avert for a new
Crimewatch presenter I jumped at the chance
to apply!" Rav had to go through numerous
interviews and auditions as well as formal TV
presenter training before being offered the
part on Crimewatch. " It was great when
I got that phone call from the producer offering
me the part. Crimewatch is such a good programme,
and is something I always watched as a boy growing
up. It is so nice to be part of it now"
