About

Debbie Flevotomou

Debbie Flevotomou, founder of Debbie Flevotomou Architects Ltd., London Berkeley Development Ltd., and London Ballet Theatre Ltd., is an inspirational public speaker, multi-award-winning architect, and prolific artist.

In addition to her role as head architect at DFA, Debbie is also the Chair of LBD, the Artistic Director of LBT, a lead ballet dancer and a very active artist.

Debbie has been recognised with 65 international awards and her work has featured in The Times, BBC, London Evening Standard, London & New York Build, the Oracle Times, Mayfair Musings, and various magazines. She has lent her expertise to many projects, judged art competitions (including for the BBC), judged and presented numerous architectural student awards and directed the “City of Tomorrow – St. James’s and Mayfair” International Architectural Students competition.

Debbie speaks passionately about nature-inspired architecture. She has enthralled audiences from New York to Casablanca, communicating her passion for THINK NATURE design and bringing her unique perspective to student and professional audiences alike.

Debbie’s latest awards include:

  • Women in Architecture Award for Best Female Architect of the Year 2021
  • Business Elite’s 40 Under 40, 2020
  • Most Influential Woman in Architecture 2019
  • Most Innovative Architect of the Year 2018

With 63 international influential conference appearances, Debbie’s unique style of engaging audiences and achieving everyone’s participation has earned her many repeated speaking invitations, from Cancun to Monte Carlo.

Amongst Debbie’s many professional achievements are the following:

  • Elected Chairperson, RIBA South London – Debbie was elected within the 1st year of her professional career; a very significant achievement given the trend of an average of 10-20 years’ experience. Her success in the role is substantiated by the 6 consecutive re-elections in the role – maximum term.
  • Elected Councillor, RIBA – Following a full term RIBA Chairmanship, Debbie assumed a wider role as a Councillor, a prominent role contested by many strong candidates with well-resourced campaigns. On both occasions, Debbie’s success was due to her passionate and inspirational personality, which enabled her to share her vision with the voting members.

Debbie performs in leading ballet roles in well known London theatres, with performance profits going to dedicated charities (Cancer Research UK. Shelter, Tuani Nascimento – Na Ponta Dos Pes). Her passion for perfecting harmony, flow, and rhythm in her ballet performances, is also reflected in her architectural parametric design and inspires her artwork on canvas.

Debbie’s strong vision of changing the world of architecture is the driving force behind her research into the environmental, financial, and socioeconomic sustainability benefits of THINK NATURE design. Her research initiatives have drawn in senior industry leaders and leading Universities behind the purpose of substantiating Enviro-aesthetic Parametric Design.

"I was impressed by Debbie’s ability to adopt the length and detail of her presentation to meet the needs of the audience. On every occasion she lifted the audience in seconds with her enthusiasm, expertise and genuine passion for Biophilic and Parametric Design. Her talks have inspired audiences from construction business leaders to university students to make models which made her talk exciting and interactive. Other talks have included presenting awards to architecture students and even making the faces of those who didn’t win light up with happiness! It is always a pleasure to listen to Debbie."

Head of the Architectural Department, Vilnius Tech (VGTU university)

"Debbie talks about architecture, future of cities and sustainability matters in an engaging, interesting and inspiring way. She is a person who likes to focus on her current working idea/project and wants to keep improving while trying to collect as much useful information as possible with her thorough research skills."
