Gavin Ramjaun

Gavin Ramjaun is television and media personality in the UK – known for anchoring news, sports and light entertainment programmes.

He’s known for having a smart, sophisticated approach to factual content, with his easy manner and ‘real style’ of hosting appealing to mass audiences across popular shows on Sky News, Sky Sports, CBS News for the US, Channel 5 and now BBC World. He’s also fronted top name programming for ITV and BBC One.

Gavin’s bright, articulate and energetic persona has been used to full effect on Sky Sports News, Sky News and CBS News. As one of the main faces of sports programming in the UK – he’s fronted rolling news coverage the biggest network, and hosted live at several events and matches with global appeal.  At the US network CBS, Gavin is used a specialist in breaking news – anchoring live from the scene on major stories, and fronting human interest pieces for mainstream audiences in America.

His international profile at Sky and CBS has also been used on BBC World programming in recent times – as a presenter of current affairs and sport from the studio on the channel. He’s reached audiences in excess of 200 million here.

Gavin is also now one of the main faces of news presentation for Channel 5, one of the big terrestrial networks in the UK viewed by millions everyday. As an anchor and reporter, he’s renowned for giving audiences their fix of the evening news – and working across light entertainment content such as premieres and gadgets.

In the last two years, he’s also played a senior role in launching a new network to the landscape – London Live, in conjunction with the Evening Standard newspaper…. As the main presenter the channel, he fronted and produced news programming in the evening and lunchtime – aswell as hosted the live entertainment shows from special events. Alongside this, he’s recently pioneered a new online trending short form news show, aimed at the Snapchat/Youtube generation which tackles current affairs in an accessible manner for his social platforms, which have tens of thousands of followers who he engages and interacts with regularly.

Prior to London Live, Gavin has worked on ITV’s flagship show This Morning, as a news presenter, reviewer and contributor in the magazine show’s interactive hub section, engaging with presenters, celebrities and viewers. He’s also highly regarded for his work with another ITV programme, morning news show Daybreak, hosting their 2012 Olympic coverage. Before this, Gavin was a presenter on the BBC News Channel and correspondent for BBC Breakfast but got his on-air break presenting Newsround and Sportsround on CBBC from 2005. On the odd occasion, he has been known to hang out and play football with mega-stars like Justin Bieber, or even play golf with Samuel L. Jackson!

Whilst also at the BBC, Gavin reported on Radio Five Live, the Today programme on Radio 4, and the famous BBC World Service. He later became the youngest presenter in BBC World TV history at the age of 26.

Having gained two top degrees at Cardiff University in the business school, he then went on to complete the Postgraduate journalism course at City University. He started his career in the media as a runner for Ant and Dec on the peak time series Saturday Night Takeaway, and before joining CBBC in September 2005, Gavin was a trainee broadcast journalist for ITV at Meridian.

Born and bred in Worcestershire, and a keen footballer in his spare time, he played semi-professionally as a teenager and in university, and dabbles in the odd charity game when it comes up. He also loves to read crime and escapism literature, attempting to learn languages(!), and travel. His family is from Ile Maurice, with relatives also across Europe.
