Designer, entrepreneur, best-selling author, and mother of five, India Hicks was born in London, England, and comes from both British and design royalty. Her father was famed interior decorator David Hicks, and her mother is Lady Pamela Hicks, whose father was the last Viceroy of India.
India has always made bold life choices, which have led to a multi-faceted, unexpected life journey. She has authored four design books, modelled for Ralph Lauren, among others, and been an on-air personality for networks ranging from Bravo to the BBC. She has had her hand in the design world for over two decades – from hotels to home collections.
In 2015, after a decade of designing collections in partnership with well-known global companies, India launched her eponymous lifestyle brand. More than a hint of luxury, a touch of British heritage and a fresh perspective on island life informs her exclusive range of handbags, accessories, beauty and fine fragrance.
India has documented her multi-dimensional, unpredictable life through her three best-selling lifestyle books Island Life, Island Beauty, and Island Style.
In her latest book, Slice of England, India takes us back to her roots in the English countryside and to the houses and remarkable gardens of her childhood: from her grandparents’ estate Broadlands, to the rooms of Britwell and the Grove, designed by her legendary father David Hicks, to her new home America Farm, where she has reinterpreted English tradition and made it her own. India also shares stories of the lives lived in the houses, from riding horseback across endless farmland and serving as bridesmaid at Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding, to her father’s design quirks, such as the time he ran over the daffodils in the garden because their colour offended him.
