Kudzi Chikumbu is a trailblazing media & entertainment technology executive, motivational speaker, career coach and Gen-Z expert with a deep passion for diversity, inclusion & representation for creators of color online. Kudzi was born in Zimbabwe and grew up in South Africa which informed his strong views on race relations, diversity and emerging creatives
Kudzi currently serves at the Director of Creator Community at TikTok (one of the fastest growing entertainment & social media apps in the world), where he is responsible for developing the creator and partner community through marketing, partnerships, education and communication with a core focus on uplifting creators beyond the platform and into the mainstream for them to achieve their career goals. Over the years, Kudzi has been profiled and featured in The Hollywood Reporter, ABC Nightline, CNBC, Business Insider, PAPER Magazine, MTV News and Refinery 29. Kudzi was selected as one of the Next Gen 2019: Hollywood’s 35 Rising Executives 35 and Under in The Hollywood Reporter and named by Business Insider as one of the 3 global power players steering TikTok’s rise in the U.S.
Kudzi began his business career as a management consultant at Deloitte Consulting in South Africa where he focused on solving complex business problems for multinational companies. In 2014, he enrolled at Stanford Graduate School of Business where he completed his MBA (Masters of Business Administration) and started in the entertainment industry by working at Hulu. While at Stanford, Kudzi was a production assistant for Tyra Banks’s class on personal branding. These experiences have been fused into his work on promoting authenticity and diversity.
Kudzi conceptualized and co-developed the inaugural and impactful TikTok #MakeBlackHistory creator summit where 130+ Black creators were invited to Los Angeles to celebrate Black History Month alongside celebrities such as Tracee Ellis Ross, Nick Cannon, Tyra Banks, Terry Crews and Doja Cat. The summit’s goal of promoting diversity online was profiled in PAPER Magazine and AdWeek.
In line with his passion for uplifting creative people, Kudzi is a motivator at heart. As a speaker, Kudzi focuses on promoting diversity online and motivating young professionals as well as emerging creators. Kudzi spoke at Stanford about how to have an authentic and successful career in his popular talk titled “The Moment You Decide to Commit to Your Purpose” on the official YouTube page for the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
