Mark Westcott is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and has worked in extreme environments around the planet, from the Greenland ice-sheet to the jungles of central and south America. He’s an award-winning TV executive, producer and director and has led filming expeditions to make numerous TV series and episodes with the likes of Bear Grylls and former US Green Beret Mykel Hawke. Some of the shows he has directed or produced include: Escape to the Legion (Discovery / Channel 4, with Bear), Man Versus Wild (Discovery, Bear), Mission Survive (ITV1, Bear) and Man Woman Wild (Discovery, Captain Mykel Hawke and Ruth England).
Mark was a co-founder of the chef Gary Rhodes’ TV production company White Tomato. In late 2019 he was filming with him in Dubai for ITV 1 when Rhodes died. Mark came back to the UK as low as he had ever been after that but soon set up another production company, Marshal Bishop. The company launched as Covid hit.
Despite the pandemic Marshal Bishop and Westcott’s first format, the survival series Called to the Wild, is currently running in the US on National Geographic and here in the UK and internationally on Nat Geo Wild. It goes global on Disney+ in 2022.
Mark has been stalked by wild animals, chased by river pirates, had hair-raising near misses in aircraft (including hot air balloons!), been threatened with jail, robbed and much more besides. He’s worked with extraordinary people in incredible places. In extreme weather, across harsh terrain, through near-death experiences, personal set-backs, tragedies, pandemics and anything else life has to throw at him, he knows how to keep going to get the job done.
Mark is ready to share his experiences and guiding principles with others in the belief he can learn from them and they can learn from him. He can talk about effective communication, motivation, leadership, teamwork, travel, self-belief and many other things besides.
"Mark is everything one could hope for as a Producer, Director & Executive. He brings a vast wealth of experience and talent to the table and is a tremendous asset to any mission as both an independent and autonomous individual, or as a hard working, peace making, decision taking team player. Mr. Westcott has very clear vision, superb creativity, extremely witty humor, understands logistics, safety, management, people, television, business, politics, drama and humanity. What it all means at the end of the day, is that Mark can take an idea from an acorn to a giant oak of a success. I'd work with Mark Westcott, anywhere, anytime, on anything- And I hardly say that for any living human. Mad Respects, Great appreciation and best wishes!"
