Sally Gunnell OBE DL
An eloquent sports speaker, Gunnell set the World Record for the 400m hurdles in 1993- still to this day her time is the British record. After life as a professional athlete had come to an end, Gunnell began to undertake a multitude of media and commercial commitments, notably becoming a regular presenter with BBC helping with their athletics and sports coverage.
Sally regularly delivers her motivational and inspirational keynotes round her two incredible journeys, first to Olympic Gold (1992) and then the following year winning gold at the Worlds (1993).
Her journey to Olympic gold tracks the trials and tribulations to achieving her childhood dream. The processes she needed to put in place, as well as working on the missing piece of the puzzle – mental strength, overcoming self-doubt, using the power of visualisation.
Sally also speaks on resilience and wellbeing. The keynote is based on her combined learnings and experience from her sporting career and the parallels between sport and business.
Resilience is about having the ability to cope with stress and pressure when the going gets tough! When life knocks you down, having the strength to get back up, again and again. The tips and tricks audiences go away with are invaluable to both their work and home life, and the individual and the business. It’s about being proactive rather than reactive. Implementing small changes that are sustainable but collectively make the greatest difference.
Sally weaves in key areas individuals can address that will support their wellbeing and improve their confidence: Fuelling ourselves, being Active, the power of Sleep, Mental strength, and Fulfilment, which comes from witnessing our own growth.
Sally also delivers wellbeing programmes to businesses that are adapted to run alongside the company’s key messaging, such as leadership, coaching, sustaining excellence, goal setting, or mind and motivation. Sally educates businesses, both large and small how to communicate that corporate message and inspires and equips them with the ideas, evidence and materials to help them develop and communicate a health and wellbeing programme.
Sally also supports a number of charities and good-causes and uses the tools learnt from her athletics career in her everyday life, to set goals and plan how to achieve them.
2022 sees Sally’s 30 year anniversary of winning gold at the Barcelona 1992 Olympics.
"I was thrilled when Sally was able to join us for our Prize Day. She was delightful, inspirational, down-to-earth and natural. A fine example to our students."

"I just wanted to say how good it was to meet Sally Gunnell on Wednesday at the Virgin Media conference. I have had so many people come up and say what an inspirational talk she gave and how much each person took away from it. I've also had at least a dozen people say they nearly burst into tears when they played the Olympic video! You can add another 211 happy customers to your total."
